November Member’s Meeting

Join us on Thursday, November 21, for the next meeting of the Friends of Nevada State Museum Las Vegas. Our speaker will be Dr. Su Kim Chung, Head of Public Services in Special Collections and Archives at UNLV. Dr. Chung is also curator for the collecting areas of entertainment, the LGBTQ community, and women’s history in Las Vegas. Dr. Chung has over 25 years of experience in these areas and has a strong reputation as a speaker on women’s history subjects.

Dr. Chung will be speaking on Jeanne Weir, a native of Iowa who moved to Nevada in 1899 as a history professor at the University of Nevada. She worked there until her retirement in 1940. Ms. Weir is best known for her work preserving the history of Nevada through her position as Secretary of the Nevada Historical Society for over 46 years.  

Dr. Chung’s talk promises to be exciting and informative, focusing on Jeanne Weir’s early collections activities in Nevada in the 1906/1907 time period. MARK YOUR CALENDARS- NOVEMBER 21 AT 2:30 PM (doors open at 2 pm).
