Dear Friend of the Nevada State Museum:
Over the past several years, our summer campaign has purchased the following items to improve the educational capability and professionalism of the Nevada State Museum. All have cost $8,000 – $10,000.
- Six (6) taxidermy items of Nevada animals not previously available in the museum.
- Nine (9) museum quality mannequins to replace the plastic department store mannequins used to display priceless clothes in the collection.
- A large document manuscript scanner to make copies of the many priceless and fragile maps and documents in the collection and used by researchers.
For your contributions in the past, we sincerely thank you! These purchases have positively contributed to the improvement of the museum.
This year, we are again seeking your help for the 2024 Summer Campaign. As the museum moves into a 6-month cycle for changing exhibitions, we find that there are several items limiting the staffs’ ability to properly prepare exhibitions. A major item is DISPLAY CASES (see attached pictures). Display cases protect and preserve artifacts and display them to visitors for viewing. Most museums have two to three sets of cases – one to be used in the current exhibition, extras to prepare the next exhibition and replace damaged items. Our museum has only one set of cases, and these have been in use for 18 years. The current cases are limited in number and style and are showing the effects of age.
The new cases, to be manufactured locally, would provide a second set to the museum; be made of solid wood; and be designed to exhibit a variety of artifact sizes. The goal for this summer’s campaign is $8,000. Those who donate $500 or more will have their name listed on a bronze plaque that will be affixed to the exhibit case. All donors will be invited to an evening cocktail party at the museum to enjoy the new Spanish Trail exhibit to open in November.
We would greatly appreciate your support of Friends and the Museum by contributing to this year’s campaign. The campaign will run from August 15 to September 20. Donations can be made by check or on PayPal. Checks can be sent by mail to:
