January Meeting

JANUARTY MEMBERS’ MEETING!

On January 16, the Friends held their monthly member’s meeting.   Attendance was down, probably due to the fact that the entry gate was locked until 2:25 pm, causing many members to assume the meeting was cancelled.

The key business matters that were handled by members in attendance were:

  1. Members passed a motion that provided up to $6,000 to revise an unused shower on the lower floor of the museum into an insect incubator to breed insects to be used for exhibits and research.
  2. The following people were elected to the board of directors and officer positions for the 2025/2026 period.
    • President: Jim Parish
    • Vice-President/Secretary:  Donna Harper
    • Treasurer:  Kathi Thomason
    • Media:  Michael Fong
    • Director: David Louy
    • Director: Lynn Wang
  3. Finances:
    • Cash on hand:  $39,554
    • Savings:  $5,009
  4. The fall auction generated $6,476 in revenue.  Thank you to Donna for all of the work she did to pull this fund raiser together.
  5. The December book fair at Barnes & Noble generated $1,692.
  6. Beginning in February, board meetings will be held on the third Monday of the month at 4 pm in the museum.
  7. Future speakers:
    • February:  Deborah Fox: author of “The Man Who Beat Death Valley”
    • March:  Nathan Harper: Springs Preserve on the Warm Springs Natural Area
