Education Room White Board

Friends Proposal for Education White Board

The Education Room at NSMLV is a bustling location where patrons of all ages and abilities are welcome to interact with our museum educators and curatorial staffs, and participate in a wide array of activities that relate to the exhibits in the galleries. Since last year, the décor and educational resources in our Education Room have been improved to enhance any visitor’s  experience.

Because of the growth in attendance from field trips, workshops, special events, and our weekly Discovery Saturday programming, the need exists to increase educational capabilities by adding a smart whiteboard to present more information in a clear and engaging manner.

Currently, we only have a projector and a small TV screen for use by the Education team to make presentations or informational slides. With the Vibe S1 board, the education team would be able to present more information and dynamic visuals. This board is easily moved into the Orientation Room, Collections spaces, or even the galleries themselves. The curators could set it up anywhere in the museum to present educational programming, workshops, or demonstrations. This addition would align with the museum’s goals of providing more programming to the public, students, university cohorts, and field colleagues in the spaces most pertinent to their purpose of seeking out our museum.

Looking over the reviews, teachers like the product and there are no reviews under four stars (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH15YS6Y?tag=bg1-794505-20&th=1).

Below, please find a few videos to help you understand how the Vibe S1 board works and how teachers today are using it for their classrooms:

We also found an example of how other museums benefit from this technology: https://www.nearhub.us/blog/revolutionizing-museums-the-impact-of-smart-whiteboards

Recently, our Curators encountered a similar smart board while visiting several schools throughout the CCSD during Science and Technology Week and Career Days. They found the board assisted in presenting the students with visuals related to the fossils and artifacts brought into the classrooms. Plus, they were able to show items that could not leave the museum owing to their sensitivity to travel.  Many items, for their care and preservation, must remain in collections rooms. The Vibe board could bring these special artifacts or specimens to our public in an engaging manner.

With new museum staff, sometimes changes are requested quicker than the State is able to answer, or require more support than the State is sometimes able to provide. The Friends currently have an educational grant (Lainie Albrecht Foundation Grant) to support the museum’s educational efforts. This request will be funded through this grant, so that we can spend the amounts that were granted to the Friends in support of the museum’s educational operations.
