JANUARY FRIENDS MEETING SUCCESS!
The first meeting of 2022 was held on January 18 at the State Museum. Forty-eight members and guests were in attendance. THANK YOU to all who attended. The meetiing discussion items were:
- The December minutes were reviewed and approved.
- Museum update:
- Sarah Hulme gave a museum tour to interested attendees after the meeting.
- Maggie Bukowski, the new curator of manuscripts, books and photos was introduced.
- Sarah reviewed the Traveling Trunk program and that the teacher response over the last week has been outstanding. FIVE ORIGINAL TRUNKS ARE BEING SOLD FOR $25 APIECE. Contact Sarah or Jim Parish to purchase.
- A Black History panel, free to members, will be held on February 19 at the museum.
- Myron Freedman, state administrator of museums, dropped by to say a few words to members. Hwe was joined by Dan Feelan, director of the State Railroad museum.
- Friends announcements:
- The December Pinot’s painting earned $370.50
- We are participating in the Springs Preserve Black History activity on Feb 19 by staffing a table advertising the Friends. Volunteers are needed for 2 hour shifts from 10 am to 4 pm. email Jim Parish (members@nsmlv.org) if interested.
- Our OAG grant allowed us to serve 6,900 students during the first school semester.
- Members at the December meeting gave input on the Newsletter, our social media, Speakers, Fundraisers, and Corporate sponsors. If you have any input, please mail to members@nsmlv.org.
- Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Sally Pera for her contribution in forming thr 32Club and raising more than $4,000 for the Friends in 2021. THANK YOU SALLY!
- The 2021 Year End Report was made available to all attendees. In 2021, we had income of $23,899 and expenses of $20,279.
- During 2022, the Friends will have fundraisers of:
- Four painting events
- Jeff Alpert book selling campaign
- 3 restaurant dine outs
- 2 book fairs: May and September
- Savers clothing drive in April
- Annual summer campaign
- Silent auction in November
- The 2022 budget was reviewed and approved.
- The speaker was Pat Kranish who spoke on the Spirit Cave and the mummy found there, the oldest known mummy. THANK YOU PAT for an excellent and interesting presentation.
- The meeting was ended at 3:40 pm.
