he next museum exhibition will be opening in August. The subject is the photography of Arthur Rothstein, who was known for his “dust bowl” photographs. There will be an evening gala as the opening of the exhibition.
In conjunction with this exhibit, the Friends of Nevada State Museum Las Vegas are sponsoring a photography contest to be tied into the opening event. Digital entries will be judged, and 20 finalists will be contacted to provide printed and framed pieces for the exhibition. The rules of the contest are:
- The contest is open to the public. Friends’ members with paid up dues can enter at no cost. All others will be required to purchase a membership for $20.
- Photos must be of either the historical or natural aspects of Southern Nevada.
- Two photos will be allowed per entrant.
- The contest will run from June 2 to July 22. Pictures submitted after July 22 will not be accepted.
- Photos must be submitted digitally. Membership payments (entry fee) can be submitted online through the Friends website (Join – Friends of Nevada State Museum Las Vegas) or by dropping off payments (cash/check), at the museum gift store during regular operating hours. No entries will be accepted without paid up dues or a membership purchase,
- Selected photos will be displayed at the exhibition’s opening event at the museum, with winners announced on the same date.
First place: 4-day stay at a vacation home in Santa Barbara
Second place: $500
Third place: $250
