April Members Meeting Report
The April Friends meeting. was held on Thursday the 18th. Our guest speakers were two charter members of the Friends, Dianne, and Ron Dizon. Their presentation titled “Around the world in 45 minutes. A bucket list journey! Visit the sites of Afghanistan, Egypt, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Bonnie Springs Nevada.” For 40 minutes, the Friends were entertained with a visual display of the colors, people, and sites of the countries listed – several of which we are no longer able to travel to visit. We would like to thank Dianne and Ron for an entertaining and informative trip.
The business meeting of the Friends consisted of:
- Approval of the March meeting minutes
- Financial report:
- Cash on hand – $48,797
- Committed – $27,962
- The next book fair will be on Saturday, May 11 at the Rainbow Barnes & Noble.
- The Friends wine tasting event at Total Wine in Boca Park will be held on June 3rd, starting at 5:30pm. 8 spots are still open.
- The membership approved $4,000 to cover repair costs for the ichthyosaur storage materials. The rework will be done over 3 weeks in July and will be led by Dr. Page Depolo. Friends will be eligible for a tour of the work are, a one-day session on paleontology, and a lecture on ichthyosaur research.
- The museum’s first “History Happy Hour” will be held at the museum on July 25th at 5:30pm. The lecture will be accompanied by refreshments. The public is welcome.
The membership approved $1,300 to cover entertainment expenses for the Liberace closing celebration on July 20.
NEW BUSINESS:
- The Friends will work with the museum to host a “Dino Day” in late July. Volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts during the 10am – 4pm event. See Donna Harper.
- The board proposed that we spend $9,000 to purchase 18 new vitrines for the Spanish Trail and future exhibits. The vitrines are required by various lenders of artifacts to protect materials. The membership approved unanimously.
- The online auction will be held from November 3 to 17th. The focus is on gift cards, experiences, or rare unique items. Please see Donna Harper of Laura Ungaro if you have any ideas.
- The May speaker will be Ron Griffin. His subject will be “History of the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park”.

Active Friends members for the past 8 years, Dianne and Ron have been generous with their time in donating and repairing computer equipment and other electronic items to the Friends, and donating beautiful, mounted photographs to our auctions. Dianne and Ron have been married for 50 years and have two sons residing in Las Vegas.
They have published three books on their travels and have had several photo exhibitions around the city over the last several years. It will be exciting to see and hear from Dianne and Ron about their travels and experiences! Join us for another interesting and informative discussion on April 18 (Thursday) at 2:30 pm in the museum events room.
